As summer comes to a close, the first leaves start to change color, and the first cool breeze can be felt. Here in the Rockies, it’s ‘Leafer’ season with all the tourists in the mountains every weekend taking in all the fall colors. Before you know it, you can pack up your summer golf shorts and break out the winter boots and snow jacket.
During the summer, it’s definitely easier to stay in shape. Hell, when I lived in Texas, you could sit by the pool and lose 5 pounds of water weight in an afternoon. But lets be realistic. You need to do more than lose weight. In reality, most of us don’t care how much we weigh. We care about how we look and feel. Ever been out of breath at the top of a stairwell while everyone else is fine?
When I graduated college, I bought a class ring. After gaining some weight post-graduation, I realized that getting my ring on and off was tough, especially after long days with swollen fingers. Once i lost a bunch of weight, my ring fell off while i was running on the treadmill. Oddly enough, that was one of the best feelings in the world.
But enough about me. You’re looking to either change up your routine or start one. Like starting a rock band, you’ll want to “KISS” Keep. It. SImple. Stupid.
First and foremost is consistency. I don’t care what you do, but keep it consistant. A few examples for you to consider if your looking for a place to start:
Take your dog for a 30-minute walk each morning before work. take a 15-minute walk each way to pick up lunch further away from the office than normal. roughhouse with your kids for a good 2 rounds at 15 minutes each. The important thing is to get 30 minutes.
